Lift Every Voice 2021

Lift Every Voice 2021

Lead by the vibrant younger BHERC members, this new “Signature” program elevates the voices of extraordinary writers and spoken word artists around the globe.

Spoken word artists, poets, and creative writers bring words to life with poetic agility, visual acuity, and agitated vocal percussion; The voice of the people. We are looking for those voices.”

— Sandra J. Evers-Manly, President & Founder BHERC

HOLLYWOOD, CA, USA, March 31, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC) along with the capable hands of its NextGen members, with pride and great excitement, announces a Call For Entries for the inaugural BHERC “Lift Every Voice” (LEV) program. This fresh and new Written and Spoken Word Competition introduces a modern pathway for expressions of the “Spoken Word” artistic medium to increase its visibility on the world stage. Beginning April 2, 2021, thru April 23, 2021, 11 PM PDT, anyone who is age 16 and above is eligible to submit. Spoken word artists, poets, creative writers, and all who desires to share their ability to tell stories; to analyze the world or situations decisively and creatively with their words; those who want to offer that knowledge in a way that is available to large and diverse audiences are encouraged to apply at www.BHERC.TV.

About the Competition
An original creation of BHERC, “Lift Every Voice” (LEV) is managed by member Robert McCune and is an important opportunity to create recognition for poets and spoken word artists, especially the younger generation. With the intent to tap into the power of words and ideas, and to engage and nurture a younger generation, LEV intends to create a bridge to understanding the issues — both legacy and contemporary — that many people face today. “‘Lift Every Voice’ is an opportunity for writers and performers to speak for themselves, their families, and the world they live in. Considering the impact of the current climate of the world, and how it has proven to be debilitating, frustrating, resulting in tragedy for so many, this show provides a platform highlighting an area of artistry that is often overlooked.” stated Robert McCune, LEV Program Director. This program also allows BHERC LEV to call out across the globe in search of talented spoken word artists who are ready to let their words be heard. BHERC wants them to be seen and heard and all forms of prose are accepted. However, what makes this program “fresh” and “next level” is the addition of the online, character-driven, multi-episode competition.

What is Different About This Competition
• Character-driven, this multi-episode competition
• (10) Finalist selected to compete for cash prizes
• Finalists/creative writers meet several challenges each week

• April 30th phase 2 contestants Announced (submit a 60-second video performing a submitted work)
• May 14th Final (10) contestants announced

About the Program Director
Robert McCune is a Spoken Word Artist who believes that having such a gift is equivalent to having a “superpower”. He is a passionate believer that your voice, your thoughts, and your ideas can and do help people. Most of all, he believes that writers are needed to create narratives for the world in ways where love always wins. Born and raised in Pittsburg California, Robert now resides in Oakland, California. He attended Holy Names University, where I received a degree in behavioral psychology. He is a proud husband, father, writer, critical thinker, and basketball coach.

The competition will span ten weeks, in which finalists will compete in different writing and performance challenges each week. Eliminations will take place weekly, where only the top-scoring will move on towards the cash prizes.

During the competition, contestants will be judged on their written works, the performance of those works, and how well their works encompassed their challenges for that week. “‘Lift Every Voice’ puts the voicings of many stories of joy and sadness, survival, healing, and triumph across the globe front and center. No one can tell these stories with more poetic agility, visual acuity, and agitated vocal percussion than spoken word artists, poets, and creative writers. They are the voice of the people. The voice of humanity!” elated Sandra J. Evers-Manly, President and Founder of BHERC. Each week Judges will mentor the contestants and go through their creative process, share a bit about the finalists and how they are handling the competition. Contestants will be expected to give testimonials, embrace competition contrary to their fellow writers, and try to gain as much exposure as possible.

BHERC believes in the promise and power of youth and young people and has invested in their power to bring about change thru the support of programs that include the Youth Diversity Film Festival, Fight Back with Film, the Artistry in Motion animation program, and mentoring workshops and panels with entertainment industry executives. The MIT Press Launches New Open Access Collection of 34 Classic Architecture and Urban Studies Titles

Out-of-print works by George L. Hersey, Mark Jarzombek, Moshe Safdie, Peter Rowe, Galen Cranz, and others available as ebooks for the first time.

CAMBRIDGE, MA, USA, March 31, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Today, the MIT Press launched MIT Press Open Architecture and Urban Studies, a robust digital collection of classic and previously out-of-print architecture and urban studies books, on their digital book platform MIT Press Direct. The collection was funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation as part of the Humanities Open Book Program, which they co-sponsored with the National Endowment for the Humanities.

For years, the MIT Press has fielded requests for ebook editions of classic, out-of-print works, like the two volumes of "The Staircase" by John Templer, "On Leon Battista Alberti: His Literary and Aesthetic Theories" by Mark Jarzombek, "Possible Palladian Villas: (Plus a Few Instructively Impossible Ones)" by George L. Hersey and Richard Freedman, and "Making a Middle Landscape" by Peter G. Rowe. Many of these foundational texts were published before the advent of ebooks and remained undigitized because of complex design requirements and the prohibitive cost of image permissions.

Now, with funding from the Mellon Foundation and the efforts of an open-access-savvy digitization team, the MIT Press was able to not only secure image permissions, but also to solicit fresh prefaces that bring new insights to bear on many of these classic texts. Many of the titles will also be made available on the open access platform PubPub where readers will be able to interact with and annotate the works with contemporary context and related readings.

Representing the breadth and depth of the MIT Press’s architecture and urban studies publishing program, the collection is a quintessential blend of theory, practice, history, and technology.

“The books in this collection are drawn from an absolutely formative period in the discourse of architectural and urban history and theory,” explains Timothy Hyde, Associate Professor, MIT Department of Architecture “These are essential publications to have available again, as they represent to some degree the founding of an independent discipline.”

Explicitly global and timeless, the collection features texts like Constantinos A. Doxiadis’s "Architectural Space in Ancient Greece," Jean Gottman’s "Megalopolis: The Urbanized Northeastern Seaboard of the United States," and "Architecture in the Scandinavian Countries" by Marian C. Donnelly. And the major figures and movements that have shaped the modern built world are well represented by books like Donald Leslie Johnson’s "Frank Lloyd Wright versus America: The 1930s," Gilbert Herbert’s "The Dream of the Factory-Made House by Walter Gropius and Konrad Wachsmann," and Moshe Safdie’s "Beyond Habitat."

This initiative combines two of the Press’s core strengths—its legacy of publishing titles of the greatest importance and highest quality in architecture and urban studies and its long-standing support for open access publishing—according to MIT Press director Amy Brand.

“The MIT Press is committed to reimagining daily what academic publishing can be,” says Brand. “This partnership with the Humanities Open Book Program not only gives these important works a second-life and introduces them to new generations of scholars and readers, it also reaffirms our commitment to making scholarship available as widely and openly as possible.”

‘Lives and Minds of C.W. Männe BINGE’ Releases Chapter 12 God's Pocket

Chapter 12 God’s Pocket from ‘Lives and Minds of C.W. Männe BINGE’

To this day, I am still astounded, that at that worst moment, I beheld the single most beautiful vision I have ever seen.

— C.W. Männe

UVITA DE OSA, COSTA RICA, March 31, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Brainiac Productions LLC, Christopher William Mahne and Sir David Michael Robinson today announced the release of Chapter 12 God’s Pocket from ‘Lives and Minds of C.W. Männe BINGE’ on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and audio content on Soundcloud and SFX video content on YouTube and IGTV.

In this chapter Kundalini is achieved. C.W. is stranded on the ‘forest balcony’, is a way of his DEALING WITH THIS NEW MIND. What he discovers there, is both TERROR AND BEAUTY. He views them equally. Hanging from the side of that cliff is horrifying…but in that place, he also sees THE TRUEST VIEW OF HEAVEN.

As we share a beautiful passage from this chapter “To this day, I am still astounded, that at that worst moment, I beheld the single most beautiful vision I have ever seen. A moment like that is one for which the word ‘sublime’ was created. Only sublime simultaneously captures the presence of ‘beauty wrapped in terror’. Sublimity what I was about to behold from that dizzying veranda. As I raised my face, I was greeted by a high and moonlit view of a never ending jungle far, far beneath me. From my position, I was sharing the perspective of God’s highest creatures, so that the fronds and leaflets, the bracts, the blades, were all beneath me—like an undulating carpet, which extended into the foreverness of that Amazonian horizon. The sky above me was equally magnificent, where I was attended by a blond and crescent moon, which had been hammocked in the cobalt. The moon was as a celestial street lamp, casting a pale-blue gauze over the world below, and deepening the amplitude of every color in its sweep. I can say, without reservation, that in my lifetime, that was the truest view of heaven I ever saw; perched there as I was, with a view of that blue-black night, dusted by that river of stars, which had been scattered above me, as if they were diamonds that had fallen from a hole in God’s pocket.”

C.W.’s mind is now open. he is able to see something very deep in his psyche… something he has avoided seeing until now… THE DOWNED AIRCRAFT. The plane is the MASCULINE SYMBOL OF C.W.’S PARENT’S DIVORCE – A PLANE CRASH.

Sir David said “I love C.W.’s imagery he looks up into the night sky, and imagines that our sky is merely the floor of heaven. The stars littered across the heavens above are diamonds that have fallen from a hole in God’s pocket. It’s brilliant. That image of god strolling through his universe, watching over his creation, is one of my absolutely favorite moments in BINGE. C.W. reminds us of both the vastness of the universe, and the smallness of each of us within it. This is a moment where the world becomes impossibly large and small at the same time.”

Mahne said “Our lives are all about perspective and seeing the beauty in everything, Pura Vida…”

Book reviewers, bloggers, journalists, and other media contacts who would like to receive a copy and/or schedule an interview with the authors can email inquiries.

Acupuncture Anatomy and Myofascial Lines

Acupuncture meridians have an anatomical basis in myofascial lines. Research in acupuncture reveals that fasciae are stretched with needling. Master Tung's points are often located in regions with dense connective tissues and fascia.

Acupuncture Anatomy & Fasciae

Research on connective tissues demonstrate a possible anatomical basis for the acupuncture meridians.

UNITED STATES, March 31, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — There are many mysteries about acupuncture but research has shown it to be effective for a variety of disorders. While researchers have primarily focused on the nervous system for understanding acupuncture, the myofascial system provides many clues about acupunctures benefits. By mapping myofascial lines according to anatomical structures and functional muscle groups, it reveals much about the actions of acupuncture. Research by Dr. Helene Langevin has also found that acupuncture has the ability to stretch the fasciae, and this can account for how points in the hand can benefit distant regions of the body. The rest of this article will discuss how myofascial lines provide a basis for acupuncture anatomy, as well as how this relates to Master Tung's acupuncture points.

Research by Tom Myers has found that the fascia surrounding muscles form functional and structural units corresponding with anatomical planes. For instance, many of the muscles on the back of the body are interlinked through fasciae. Similarly, muscles on the anterior and lateral portions of the body are also interconnected through myofascial lines. On the posterior plane, the gastrocnemius muscle connects to the hamstrings, erector spinae, neck muscles and occipital fasciae. This posterior plane can be stretched as one unit in a simple forward bending position and is similar to the urinary bladder meridian. On the anterior plane, the SCM muscle connects to fasciae in the chest, abdomen, quadriceps and tibialias anterior muscles. This myofascial line is similar to the stomach meridian and can be stretched in backbends.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) points on the stomach meridian and anterior portion of the leg are often used for lung and digestive conditions. While it is difficult to understand how points on the leg can treat the respiratory and digestive systems from a neurological perspective, the myofascial line theory provides a mechanical and anatomical basis for the actions of these points. Points like ST 36 and ST 40 therefore have a direct myofascial connection to respiratory muscles and fasciae in and around the chest. In a Taiwanese style of acupuncture known as Master Tung’s acupuncture, there are a group of three points on the thigh which are regarded as some of the most beneficial for lung disorders. These points are also located on the anterior fascial line, and have direct connections to the respiratory system.

On the posterior fascial line there are a group of acupuncture points in the achilles tendon that are used for treating neck and occipital disorders. Mapping the myofascial groups on this line reveals a direct connection from the achilles tendon to many of the small muscles in the neck. To help us understand how non-local points can effect distant regions of the body, we can draw from the principles of tensegrity. Tensegrity consists of two words, tension and integrity, and explains how tension moves through a system of compressed parts. When there is tension in the deep neck muscles, that tension can get transferred down the posterior line through the paraspinals, sacral fascia, hamstrings and calves. As the calve muscles converge to form the achilles tendons, needling into the achilles tendon can alleviate tension that has been distributed through the posterior line.

When we compare traditional acupuncture points with Master Tung’s points, and draw from the principles of tensegrity, we can discover a myofascial basis for acupuncture.

Heads or Tails: A true account of the nation’s worst hostage crisis

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, March 30, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Lisa Joseph is one of the lucky survivors. On April 4, 1991, she and two other family members stopped by the Good Guys Electronics Store in Sacramento, California. As they left the store, she was grabbed by the hair and shoved against the wall. Shots rang out and four Asian gunmen seized the store to protest their frustrations and unhappiness with their lives in the United States. Forty people were held at gunpoint and before the day was out the suspects deliberately shot, stabbed or wounded eleven of the hostages, and killed three others.

Lisa Joseph can recount the harrowing experiences inside the store from beginning to end. She can describe:

● How the hostages get tied up with speaker wire in groups and were then ordered to play death games. (Heads or Tails & Eeenie Meanie Miney Moe)

● What the hostages felt like during the discussions between the hostage negotiation team and the extremely violent gunmen. Why the gunmen were so disgusted with their high school legal issues?

● What it was like when the SWAT team finally stormed the store and ended the crisis. After, all the hostages had already been tortured for nine hours. Why? Lisa is upset with the release of the new motion picture movie.

● How she suffered a miscarriage with a twelve gauge to her head in the store. Then was made to watch people being shot, including her uncle.

She can provide an insider’s view of the excruciating details of the most brutal and tense terrorist standoff in the history of California.

During the siege, the Asian gunmen made a variety of demands wanting everything from millions of dollars to more guns, bulletproof vests, and a 50-passenger helicopter to take them to Thailand, and 1,000-year-old Ginseng roots. The hostage crisis ended when the Special Enforcement Details forcibly stormed in, killing three of the gunmen and wounded the fourth. Joseph and her cousin survived. Her uncle was shot multiple times and killed by one of the gunmen.
